A Fresh Take on Your Next Date: Asheville Farmer’s Markets

Are you looking for a fresh take on your next date? Take your special someone, be it your partner or friend to a local Asheville Farmers Market! Heck, bring the whole family. Furry friends are welcome too!

There are several markets to choose from and across southern Appalachia, there is at least one, if not multiple every day. Find a full list at ASAPConnections.org.

What is there to do at a farmer’s market? The real question is, what isn’t there to do at a farmer’s market. You can shop local vendors from pottery to handmade soaps, or buy plants for your garden, flowers and even trees. Many of the markets have food trucks, coffee, juice bars and more. It is wonderful just to enjoy the local musicians adding to the ambiance.

Let’s not forget the artisanal cheeses, local meats, locally crafted beverages, incredible baked goods and of course the abundance of produce. Whether you come to collect your weekly grocery haul or the ingredients needed for cook-at-home date night, you’ll find just about everything you need right at the market.

Right now, the markets are stocked with leafy greens, strawberries, asparagus, green onions, sweet turnips and more. Each week as the weather becomes warmer and summer approaches, the produce will shift too.

In May, you are likely to see, beets, blueberries, radishes, peas, and bok choy.

In June, blackberries, raspberries, peaches, carrots, cucumbers, tomatoes and much more will be making their way to your basket.

In July, cantaloupes, figs, nectarines and okra are just a few among the plethora of produce you’ll be able to feast your eyes on.

Now, what are you waiting for? Find the market that sounds best to you and add it to your calendar. I’ll be at my personal favorite, the North Asheville Tailgate Market at UNCA every Saturday! Say hi if you see me there.
