Summertime is around the corner, meaning outdoor activities are a must! We are blessed with having scenery most would envy right in our backyards, and there are several ways to get in touch with nature while also reconnecting with your significant other. With all the stresses that life and work can bring, it is of the essence to find ways to ensure our bodies, minds and relationships are as healthy as possible. From our picturesque parks, to scenic waterfalls, breweries, and even a salt cave, we have compiled some interesting ways to do yoga in Asheville with your love.
Yoga + Nature
The popular Yoga in the Park series is back! Classes are held on most Saturdays at 10am at Reuter Terrace in Pack Square Park. Proceeds from these donation-based classes will benefit Homeward Bound and United Way. Yoga in the Park will occur on the following Saturdays: June 2nd, June 9th, June 16th, June 30th, July 7th, July 14th, July 21st, July 28th, August 11th, August 18h, August 25th, and September 1st.
A yogi’s dream, the Asheville Yoga Festival will feature yoga classes held in a variety of scenic locations, as well as other activities including meditation, music, talks, SUP yoga, and walking tours. Be sure to also venture to the Mountain Air Market for a bite or some shopping. The pedestrian-friendly festival combines the vibrant vibe of Downtown Asheville with the picturesque view of the Appalachian Mountains.
For locals who want a relaxing staycation, look no further than the Biltmore. This grandiose estate offers complimentary outdoor yoga classes for guests who stay at The Inn, Village Hotel, or Cottage. Saturday morning classes are held at The Grand Terrace of The Inn at 8:15 a.m, and Sunday classes are held at Village Green in Antler Hill Village at 8:15 a.m. Guests will be provided towels and no mat is required.
Available on a monthly basis, class last approximately 45 minutes and aim to release tension and reintegrate the 5 body sheaths of your being (physical, energy, emotional, mental, etheric). Upcoming classes will take place June 22nd, July 20th, August 17th, September 21st, and October 12th.
Founded in 2017 by Miranda Peterson, Namaste in Nature’s purpose is provide a way to unwind from the daily pressures and stresses while simultaneously getting in touch with nature. Beginners to advanced yogis will find a class or journey best suited for them, with choices such as the upcoming Waterfall Yoga Hikes and Mountain Yoga Hikes, each lasting between 2-3 hours. Those seeking a more immersive experience can partake in one of the various Multi-Day Retreats offered, such as the Weekend Adult Summer Yoga Camp or Whitewater Wellness Weekend taking place starting July 21st. Additionally, a portion of proceeds is donated to plant a tree via onetreeplanted.org.
Yoga + Animals
Yoga is only made better by animals; that’s just a fact. A yoga class for $5 is already a steal, but add on top of that the opportunity to interact with the Sanctuary animal family and you have a fantastic way to start your weekend. Post-class brews are a must.
Franny’s Farm is not only going to help you bend, stretch, and reinvigorate yourself, they’re going to let you do it while baby goats roam around you. Public classes are beginners level and are held on the last Sunday of the month, but private classes can also be reserved. Upcoming public classes will take place on June 24th, July 29th, August 26th, September 23rd and October 28th.
Yoga + Drinks
Pack up your mat and partake in this all levels yoga class, held every Wednesday from 6-7pm. Classes are approximately an hour long and all levels are welcome to participate. Arrive early to take advantage of their weekly Farmer’s Market held from 4-7pm and featuring live music and food from Oskar Blues CHUBwagon.
Every Sunday join instructor Robin Lewis for Sunday Beer and Yoga at UpCountry Brewing. The hour-long classes are only $5 and are suitable for all levels. Be sure to bring your own yoga mat, and participants also receive a pour of your favorite UpCountry brew at the end of the class.
