Happy Hour Test Drive: Holiday Cocktails at MG Road

Located along Asheville’s historic Wall St is the Best Bar in America.  Well, kinda.  Though the title was self given, many locals would agree that MG Road is one of Asheville’s most beloved bars.  And for good reason.  Miracle on Wall St, a seasonal Christmas Pop Up Bar, is bringing Asheville holiday cheer with a creative craft cocktail menu sure to make any Grinch smile.

Walking into MG Road is a festive experience, any season.  With hundreds of Christmas lights strewn across the ceiling, it’s a party everyday.  The atmosphere is casual and relaxed with comfy lounge chairs, coffee tables, and the right amount of edge to keep you wondering whose gonna walk through the door.

But what we really want to talk about is the The Miracle on Wall St pop up bar and why it should be on your happy hour bucket list this holiday season.  The menu offers 10 drinks and 2 shots, paying boozy homage to the 12 days of Christmas.

Drinks

Since we’ve been a little naughty this year, we started with the Yippie Ki Yay Mother F*****r!  Yes, that’s its name.  A sweet, but naughty mix of Rum, pineapple, purple yam-coconut orgeat and cochaca.  All beneath a bed of ice (snow) with a sprig of mint.  Added bonus: nails match the cup!

Next we went a more classy route with the Christmapolitan.  A vodka, elderflower, dry vermouth, spiced cranberry sauce, rosemary, lime with a mist of absinth.  Think Sex in the City meets the North Pole.

What’s more Christmas than a little egg nog?  The Jingle Ball Nog goes down smooth, which could get you in trouble.  This creamy cocktail of cognac, amontillado sherry, peanut butter, almond milk, pandan, cream, nouget syrup, egg, and nutmeg will have you comfy and cozy.

For a gingery take on an old classic, try the Snowball Old Fashion.  It’s made with gingerbread bourbon, wormwood bitters and lemon zest with a snowball of ice plunked in the middle.  It’s a zingy cocktail that’ll warm you up quickly!

Food

Hungry?  What goes better with holidays cocktails than little curry?  MG Road offers a specialty lounge menu from Chai Pani with Indian street food staples like tikka rolls and uttapam.

Miracle on Wall St is a fun way to change it up and immerse your date night in the holiday spirit!  Pregame with cocktails and make it a dance date on Saturdays, with a live DJ spinning tunes from 10pm – 2am.
