We are always sharing our favorite places to eat, drink and play around Asheville, but what about when locals need to escape their daily stomping ground? This summer, when it was time to escape from the tourists and mountains, a visit to the ocean is just what you need. Here is our relaxing Myrtle Beach escape on a budget itinerary just for you.
Hop in your car with your favorite fun in the sun playlist, some yummy snacks and a good friend. It will take you just 5 hours to get to a new kind of paradise!
Instead of staying in the hustling and bustling downtown of Myrtle Beach, we recommend pitching a tent at the amazing Myrtle Beach State Park. Here you can camp next to the sound of waves crashing, soak in tons of clean oxygen while tucked under beautiful trees, all within a short walk to a refreshing and salty dip.
Not only is the state park a relaxing place to stay, but it’s also affordable at just $29.00 a night! This outstanding state park also offers beautiful hiking trails, a pier, and a nature center.
Bring your beach chair and towel, pitch your tent and soak up all the sun, salt and sand!
First of all, if you haven’t already packed your bathing suit, or two, stop reading and go to that right now. You are going to the beach! Staying at the campground, you are walking distance from the ocean and don’t have to hassle over a parking spot or pay an extra fee. Bring your sunscreen (we grabbed our zero waste fav from Ware AVL), a chair, a towel, some beach toys and a good book. You could easily spend your entire day here, but we don’t want you to come back like a lobster, so remember to take a few breaks.
Hiking trails are right in the park and peaceful as ever. Exploring all the ones behind the overflow camping area will bring you peace and tranquility. Keep your eyes open for many birds as well. Also, while staying at Myrtle Beach State Park, you get free admission to Huntington State Park, just 30 minutes away. Here you can enjoy a new stretch of beach, explore two addition trails and even search for treasure with a geocache app.
Meet some local farmers and crafters at any of the numerous farmer’s markets. Just about every day you can find a market popping up somewhere in Myrtle Beach. Find a complete list and learn what you may find here.
Breakfast and dinner are easy to make right at your campsite. Be it chia seed pudding or a bowl of cereal for breakfast or burgers and hotdogs for dinner, we recommend dividing the meals and taste culinary creations of your travel companions.
When the sun is at it’s highest, find your way to a refreshing lunch at one of your two favorite healthy eateries.
Kind Belly Cafe offers organic, non-GMO that are nourishing, wholesome and clean: Not only is the menu incredible, but you also can sit outside in the tree-shaded patio when the sun brings the temperature to its highest. We recommend fueling your sunkissed body with one of their veggie wraps. Our personal favorites were the Good Goddess and Island Stylin’.
Bay Natural Healthy Market and Kitchen is a great place to not only grab lunch but collect any ingredients or snacks you may need for your remaining meals. Here you can find everything from fresh produce and kombucha to cauliflower crust pizza and salmon burgers, all of which we suggest you consume!
Ready to shake up the night? Leave the campground and head to Duplin Winery, one of the oldest and largest southern wineries. Sign up for a Deluxe Wine Tasting (only $9 with this coupon) You’ll taste 10 wines while snacking on gourmet crackers and a divine cheese dip.
If two people go on this trip, they are going to spend less than $100 each if you follow our itinerary, including the cost of gas! Of course, you can make this cheaper or stack the cost, but the truth be told, the only thing that stands between you and a remarkably relaxing and low key weekend is $100!
So what are you waiting for? Shake up your scenery and get some sand in your toes this weekend! Use #AVLTakesMB and tag us for a chance to be reposted. Happy sunbathing and splashing!
