Long distance relationships are not the easiest to manage. Throw children into the mix and you’ve got quite an uphill battle to climb! But climbing mountains is part of the appeal for Asheville wedding photographers Tessa and Chris. Their love for adventure has kept them grounded and forever seeking the simple, romantic pleasures in life. With a side of donuts….
ADVENTURE
Chris and I get extremely random date days. But when we do get date days, we love adventure! Locally, our favorite thing to do is to drive around Asheville and start with a hike. Our favorites are: Craggy Gardens, Black Balsam, and Hawksbill in Linville. We take a few hours to soak in that vitamin D and the mountains. We love it even more when we see a black bear or three on the parkway towards sunset. Black Balsam is our absolute favorite place to camp. It’s not a bad hike and you can find a few other campers along the way.

In the summer we try to find some swimming holes. Our favorite place to swim in the summer is Looking Glass Falls. You can expect lots of tourists. But that’s kinda great to be able to people watch. And Asheville has no shortage of mountain tops with insanely romantic views…

EATS
The Asheville food scene is ever changing and amazing! But as donut lovers, we’ve recently discovered Hendough Chicken & Donuts in Hendersonville (30 minutes south of Asheville). They have the BEST chicken I’ve ever had. And the most amazing Mac and cheese. But my favorite: Their donuts! They’re thick, and heavy! AND 100% DELICIOUS. My mouth is watering just thinking about it. It’s the ultimate Date Night for Donut Lovers.

We love the River Arts District in Asheville. Not only can you hit Wedge Brewing and 12 Bones Smokehouse , but the graffiti art alone is worth the trip! My favorite piece is the Homer Simpson with the donut (naturally). Chris’s favorite piece is the popular Good Vibes silo. While you’re in River Arts District, check out Summit Coffee!

STAYCATION
Anytime we go to Asheville, we try to stay in a rad location for the night. For example, Airbnb has some really adorable tiny houses and cabins in and around Asheville. Our favorite was this little itty bitty red tiny house on Airbnb. I think we paid a whopping $60 for it. And it was the most amazing tiny house. We actually ended up shooting our friend’s couple photos there.
All in all it’s about capturing the moments you have together and embracing your own sense of adventure.
